To be a Dissident:
The Pilgrams who came to America
The Declaration of Independence
The Emancipation Proclamation
The Civil Rights Movement
Troublemakers . . . or Heroes?
Dissidents founded America. Dissidents were the Founding Fathers of our Country. Dissidents are who helped to make the United States the great Nation that it is today. If Dissidents are good enough for the United States, they are good enough for the USGenWeb.
You need not be a dissident, or even a troublemaker, to belong to Dissidents Anonymous. You do need to be a member of the USGenWeb. You do need to support that all members should be treated equally and fairly. You do need to support that all members should abide by the rules, even leadership.
What we support is our Creed, along with a fundamental principal: "Here is the right of free and fair debate, the right of the majority to decide, and the right of the minority to protest and be protected. Here is also a demonstration that the violation of rights in assemblies lends weight to the cause of the suppressed." (Sturgis)
Alice Sturgis Award -- If you have gone above and beyond the call of duty, you may be eligible for the Alice Sturgis Distinguished Service Award. This might be accomplished by a long-standing reputation of upholding member rights and fairness in public on USGenWeb National lists; by starting to do so; or by in one form or the other helping to make the USGenWeb a better place for all.
